The coffee industry is broken

From plant to cup, it takes the average farmer 3 years to produce speciality coffee. Despite their dedication and skill, around 44% of coffee growers worldwide are living in poverty, impacted by the daily fluctuations of the commodity market price of coffee. Add in a growing global demand from ‘Big Coffee’ for high volumes of low-priced beans and many farmers are barely breaking even. Meanwhile, the end-consumer is drinking rubbish coffee thanks to beans roasted to a crisp to disguise their poor quality. The situation needs to change. Fast.

Improving coffee from the grounds up

At Pact, we go straight to source in search of the world’s best coffee, build long-lasting relationships with a community of 124+ farmers and pay great prices for great coffee - 65% above the Fairtrade base price, on average. By working with farmers directly, we drastically reduce the number of steps needed in the coffee supply chain, leaving more money in the hands of farmers. We also champion sustainable farming methods and have published our Sourcing Policy for other coffee brands to follow. After all, there’s no Planet B. All of this leads to better paid farmers, better practices and better quality coffee.
